(Ireland/2014—directed by Tomm Moore)
From the creators of the Academy Award®-nominated The Secret of Kells comes a breathtakingly gorgeous, hand-drawn master-piece. Based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, Song of the Sea tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey to discover the secrets of their past. Pursued by the owl-witch Macha and a host of mythical creatures, Saoirse and Ben race against time to keep the spirit world from disappearing forever. (93 min.)

Animated Thoughts: Academy Awards, pt. 2

'Song of the Sea' by Cartoon Saloon

"Animation Geek Flag" achieved!

Fortunately for me, Song of the Sea received a wider than expected release here in Michigan. So on Saturday, I drove to Detroit and saw not only Song of the Sea at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, but also the entire line-up of Academy Award nominated short animated films at the Detroit Institute of Arts' Detroit Film Theater.

I am now ready to watch the Academy Awards ceremony.

Animated Inspiration: Song of the Sea

Well, today is St. Patrick's Day. So, while I do my yearly dance to avoid drunk MSU students while running errands in East Lansing, you can all enjoy this teaser for "Secret of Kells" director Tomm Moore's next animated film: "Song of the Sea."
